Get Iris

Yours to run.

Iris is licensed to run on your own infrastructure. Your mail, your keys and your logs stay on machines you control, and nothing about your mail depends on a service we operate.

What you get

  • The iris server: one Linux binary, database built in
  • The operator console, for tenants, senders, keys and messages
  • iris-client, a typed client for Rust systems
  • The integration and operations guides
  • New releases as they ship

What you need

  • A Linux x86-64 host with systemd
  • From 128 MiB of memory for the store
  • A Microsoft 365 tenant, a Cloudflare account with Email Service, or both
  • A sending domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC
  • An operators’ certificate authority of your own

How it runs

  • A send API for your systems, on a port you choose
  • An operator API over mutual TLS
  • Settings in environment variables, kept by your secret store
  • Started sealed: no unseal key on the host
  • An honest health check and JSON logs for your monitoring

Where it stands

Iris carries the sign-in codes, password resets and confirmations of Frogfish’s own products today. Before we call it generally available it has to pass a release gate we wrote down in advance: what it does, how it holds up at a volume we have measured, how it fails, how its secrets are kept, whether someone other than its authors can run it, and whether its consumers work.

More than half of that gate is done. What remains is mostly measurement at scale and operational polish, and we will walk you through the gate itself, row by row, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Licensing

Official Iris binaries are licensed by Frogfish LLC under the Frogfish Binary License 1.0, which iris --license prints in full. There is no price list yet: tell us what you want to send and how, and we will talk about what fits.
